1909 Royal Delft Hand-Painted “Halve Maen” Commemorative Charger – De Porceleyne Fles
Rare and highly collectible 1909 Royal Delft commemorative charger, hand-painted by De Porceleyne Fles to mark the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s historic voyage aboard the Halve Maen (Half Moon), 1609–1909.
Executed in luminous cobalt blue, the 10” charger depicts the Dutch vessel under full sail, with finely detailed rigging, atmospheric cloudwork, and dynamic sea movement. The border is elegantly inscribed “September 1909” and “De Half Maan 1609–1909,” reflecting the commemorative nature of the piece.
The reverse bears the De Porceleyne Fles factory mark with apothecary bottle emblem, workshop initials “WD,” pattern number “W. 420 D,” handwritten date “Made in 1909,” and artist signature. This confirms authentic early 20th-century production — not later decorative Delft revival ware. An exceptional example of antique Dutch Delftware, combining maritime history, hand craftsmanship, and strong decorative presence.
Condition: Very good antique condition with age-appropriate surface crazing. No visible hairlines or significant chips. Displays beautifully.
